New City & Guilds Apprenticeships

Nine members of the Airside Safety Department at Heathrow Airport have completed a 12-month City & Guilds accredited apprenticeship programme, the first of its kind in the airside safety and operations sector at the Airport. The group all received their apprenticeship certificates from the Chief Operations Officer Normand Boivin.

The apprenticeships were delivered by QA Associates and comprised four modules: a competency based Diploma in Aviation Operations on the Ground, a knowledge based Technical Certificate in Aviation Operations on the Ground and Functional Skills in Maths and English. The programme was co-funded by the Skills Funding Agency.

Simon Newbold, Head of Training in ASD, said: “I’m really pleased to see them get these qualifications as all had positive feedback about the scheme, which recognises that the training ASD provides meets the required national standard.”

Dennis Fretwell the Managing Director of QA Associates, the company who delivered the apprenticeships commented, “All the individuals on the programme worked really hard to complete their Level 3 qualifications from City and Guilds which are designed to demonstrate their competence in the important safety role that they undertake at the airport.
